An athlete with a specific sleep issue ?
An athlete with a specific sleep issue that is impacting your day to day life, your ability to train, your opportunity to recover…
We work closely with athletes who are suffering with specific sleep disorders.
The prevalence of sleep inadequacy and restriction is high among elite (and non-elite) athletes, who often experience disruptive training, high training load/volume, performance related worry/anxiety, caloric restriction and competition/travel schedules that limit the opportunity for sleep. This is characterised by habitual sleep durations or less than 7 hours, sleep dissatisfaction, unrefreshing sleep, long sleep latency, excessive day-time sleepiness and day-time fatigue.
Studies reporting global sleep habits in elite athletes show that:
- 50%–78% of elite athletes experience some degree of sleep disturbance,
- 22%–26% suffer highly disturbed sleep,
- 25-30% of professional athletes suffer clinical sleep disorders yet 80% of those remain undiagnosed.
This is where HPS can help, with a background in clinical sleep disorders we are experienced in their management and treatment.

Preparing for an event, race or adventure ?
Preparing for an event, race, or adventure that is going to severely impact your opportunity or ability to sleep.
Are you preparing for an epic event, a race, an adventure that will severely impact your opportunity or ability to sleep. Our experts at HPS can help prepare your sleep prior to the event and then advise you on sleep management during the event.
Perhaps you are planning to run the Tor de Geants 330, the UTMB Mont Blanc, row the pacific, cross the arctic, ride in a stage race, or participate in an ultra-endurance event such as the Ride across America or Race across France.
We have extensive experience as to how to manage fatigue, sleepiness and sleep in events such as these, whilst managing your performance goals. Whether you are looking to complete or compete… we can help you strategize your sleep so you remain safe and happy (ish, these things are type 2 fun right?) whilst not compromising on performance.
Through years of work at events such as the above we have seen first-hand the problems encountered when athletes do not get their sleep strategy right, and also the gains that can be made when sleep is correctly managed.
A professional athlete or team ?
A professional athlete or team that is sleeping well but want to sleep even better!
At High Performance Sleep we work within professional sports teams to implement changes that will optimise already good sleep. We provide travel advice and jet lag strategy for traveling teams that are competing abroad. We advise on environmental and schedule changes that can have significant impact on quality and quantity of sleep, both of which are critical for performance, recovery and mental health, and we work with each individual athlete to uncover their pinch points surrounding optimal sleep.
