Dr. Charlotte Edelsten
Supporting sleep in a sports environment. Working with athletes… optimising sleep to support performance.
Charlotte's knowledge and expertise is built on a solid ground of a 20+ year career in the world of sleep. Charlotte started her career as a researcher, completing her PhD at the University of Birmingham, UK, she moved out the French Alps in 2007 and started work at Geneva University Hospital, Switzerland. For the past 8 years her work has shifted from the clinical environment to that of the mountains where she works now almost exclusively with athletes of all levels who want to optimize that last piece of the high performance puzzle: SLEEP!
Both her research and clinical background give her a solid foundation from which she bases much of her current work in the field of sport.
She has a wealth of experience working with recreational to world class athletes including ultra endurance runners, cyclists, skiers, triathletes, mountaineers, mountain guides, adventure racers, mountain bikers, expedition teams, fast packers and stage racers.
She has worked for the past 8 years at the UTMB Mont Blanc running a research study looking at the impact of sleep deprivation on physical and cognitive performance of runners (publications upon request), and so remains a credible expert in the world of ultra endurance having seen, managed and experienced first-hand the consequences of acute sleep deprivation in the race environment.
Charlotte lives and works in the Chamonix valley where she combines her love of endurance and mountain sports with her passion for all things performance. Charlotte has built a global reputation for her rigorous scientific approach and unrivalled depth of practical experience in applying sleep strategy and theory to the world of sport. She speaks regularly at industry events in the UK and Europe and works with professional sports teams as part of the multi-disciplinary high performance coaching panel, supporting athletes to achieve optimal performance.
Charlotte’s passion is fuelled by the inspirational and motivated athletes, teams and organisations she gets to support helping achieve their performance goals.
Charlotte loves spending her free time in the mountains with her children, she enjoys the changing of the seasons; running and racing on the alpine trails in the summer, and throughout the winter enjoys cross country skiing, ski touring, and attempting to keep up with her children whilst downhill skiing.
